Sizing Pumps and Tanks

Pressure tank should be sized to GPM (gallon per minute) the pump produces. Tank should be big enough so pump runs at least one minute between cycles, preferably two minutes (this increases the life of the pump).

Sizing a pump for a medium size three bedroom home:

1/2 HP 10 GPM pump at 50' pumping level

3/4 HP 10 GPM pump at 100' pumping level

1 HP 10 GPM pump at 150' pumping level

1 1/2 HP GPM pump at 200' pumping level
